The challenge
The Jubilee brings millions of pilgrims to Rome, concentrated in symbolic and confined spaces. In crowded squares, crowd dynamics can turn dangerous within minutes: security cannot rely only on responding to an emergency, it must anticipate it.
The approach
The Polis Consulting team uses crowd movement simulation software based on internationally recognized algorithms: 3D models of the spaces, incident scenarios (crushing, panic, evacuation) and forecasting of inbound and outbound flows. The results are translated into concrete management measures for the security teams.
The outcome
Critical points are identified before they become dangerous: optimal positioning of emergency personnel, calibrated routes, decision times reduced to a minimum. The work was covered by the DIRE news agency.
